Welcome

My name is Heather Milton-Haynes and I’m the Head of ABQ Explorer at ABQ Seeb International School. The ABQ Explorers are our youngest students and represent the little caterpillars who enter the school eager and excited about their journey towards becoming confident and well-rounded ABQ butterflies towards the end of their school journey.

We view our role in their development as supportive and guiding facilitators. Each child is unique and as such will learn and develop in their own special way and at their own individual pace.

The ABQ Explorer programme is designed to fully support all aspects of a young child’s development, including their educational, personal, social, emotional, physical and overall well-being. We believe in instilling in each child a love for learning that will guide them through their school years and into later life. As Maria Montessori famously said, “The goal of early childhood education should be to activate the child’s own natural desire to learn”, and that is exactly what we aim to do on a daily basis. We look forward to welcoming you into our school family.

Curriculum

Our ABQ Explorers follow the UK-based International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC). The IEYC is an innovative research-based toolkit, that recognising global best practice and the developmental needs of 2 to 5-year-olds. It supports key areas of learning through holistic enquiry and play-based approaches encompassing all curriculum areas. The IEYC has four learning strands:

Pastoral Care

Our ABQ Explorer students are nurtured and supported by two key members of staff – their Homeroom teacher and the teaching assistant. Each Homeroom teacher is responsible for a small group of students and provides the essential link between home and school.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to come into school in the morning and afternoon at pick-up and drop-off times to meet their child’s teacher and to get an update on how their child was during the day. The collaboration between teacher and parent/caregiver ensures that our youngest students are fully supported and ensures continuity in their care.

We encourage open and frequent communication between home and school and have dedicated Parent-Teacher meetings every term. In addition, every ABQ family is supported by a dedicated Parent Care Officer (PCO) who is available to answer any day-to-day questions you may have and to support you throughout your child’s school journey at ABQ. Our on-site school nurse is available all day to provide any medical attention our students or staff may require.

Unique Programmes

At ABQ Seeb International School, our KG students are equipped with an ABQ 1:1 Chromebook which enables them to start their online journey and development from a young age.

They make use of exciting age-appropriate educational applications such as:

Seesaw: an online workspace where students and teachers can share activities, photos, presentations and videos
Reading Eggs: an exciting literacy programme
Mathseeds: a fun and interactive maths programme

What makes your section special?

We are strong believers in making learning as fun as possible. It is through doing this that our students develop their love for learning and for school at a young age. Each month we have a themed Thursday where students are invited to dress up in clothes related to the theme and special activities and fun events are carried out, for example, ‘Dinosaur Day’ where our ABQ Explorers explore the greenery and search for hidden dinosaur eggs dressed up as their favourite dinosaur detective! We also have themed weeks such as Book Week where we celebrate the joys of reading and end the week’s educational activities with a fun Thursday where we all dress up as our favourite book characters.

Facilities

The ABQ Explorer section of our school is the foundation for a lifelong love for learning. Providing a safe environment for students to grow and learn where they feel their voice is heard has a large impact on their learning and overall well-being. Our classrooms and play areas are well-equipped as welcoming and creative learning spaces to promote and stimulate collaborative learning.

We offer a carefully selected combination of fun and educational learn-through-play activities where the children work with their hands and use their senses to get fully immersed in all aspects of learning. Our students are encouraged to express their creative side through arts and crafts, music and movement, as well as rhythmic fine and gross motor activities. Our ABQ Explorer teachers work closely with the Grade 1 teachers to ensure that each student is equipped with the necessary skills to enable them to flourish in Primary.
