Learning Support
Individualised Learning
At ABQ, in line with our motto, We Care, we are committed to individualised learning. Learning support is, therefore, an integral part of our philosophy. Through our Discovering You Program, we aim to address each student’s unique educational needs.
This means we provide support not only for underachieving students, but also have intervention strategies in place for our top achievers.
Booster Lessons
Teachers plan their lessons in a way that allows for differentiated learning. However, this is not always enough. We also provide extra booster lessons if necessary, and again, this is offered to all our students, not only those with a lower performance level.
These lessons are based on rigorous testing and analysis. Our mentoring system is also an intrinsic part of this, and we work in collaboration with parents to achieve the required targets.
Specialised Learning Support Department (Shamil)
We also have a dedicated learning support department in each school. This allows us to take individual students, or small groups of students, out of class for certain periods and provide them with more specialised tuition. We must, however, clarify that none of our schools is special education schools, nor do we have the resources to provide for students with severe learning disabilities.
As such, our learning support is more based on academic support for individual subjects (e.g., English, Arabic and Mathematics), as well as teaching study skills and helping students find the best way for them to learn. We also believe that our student-centred teaching methodology is better suited to a wider range of learning styles than other, more teacher-centred philosophies, as it allows for a more individualised approach.
